On 9 October 2023 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered and pronounced a Trial Judgment finding the accused Miroslav Marković guilty of the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172(1)h) as read with Subparagraph a), all in conjunction with Articles 180(1) and 29 CC BiH, sentencing the accused to 13 (thirteen) years of imprisonment.
The accused has been found guilty that during the period from early April to at least late July 1992, within a widespread and systematic attack of the army and police of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, subsequently Republika Srpska, targeting the Bosniak civilian population in a broader territory of the Lokanj village, Municipality of Zvornik, and the surrounding municipalities, as a member of the Lokanjska Company of the Zvornik Brigade, MP 7469, of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), together with multiple members of the Public Security Station (SJB) Ugljevik, and members of the Lokanjska Company of the Zvornik Brigade MP 7469 of the VRS, knowing of the attack and that his actions form a part of the attack targeting the Bosniak civilian population on national, ethnic and religious grounds, as an accomplice took part in the persecution of the Bosniak civilian population, together with the other accomplices, in relation to the killing of at least 67 Bosniak civilians.
The referenced judgment may be appealed before a panel of the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH within 15 (fifteen) days after the receipt of a written judgment.
On the same day, the Court issued a decision ordering the accused into custody due to the existing risk of flight, which can pursuant to the said decision last no longer than nine (9) months or until a new Court’s decision, running from the arrest day.
